Folios 112-113: James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth. Encloses a copy of a letter from Lieutenant Carter and commends his conduct during his time at the Impress Service.
Folios 114-115: enclosure with folios 112-113. Letter dated 11 June 1812 by James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth, to William Domett, Vice Admiral at the Admiralty. Encloses a copy letter from Lieutenant Carter asking to be superseded. Explains that Carter has been so successful carrying out his duties in the Impress Service that he has made himself obnoxious to the people of Falmouth and needs to move. Mentions Lieutenant Carter's earlier service on HMS Royal George under William Domett, and at the Battle of Trafalgar and recommends Lieutenant Carter for active service afloat. Describes the challenges of working in the Impress Service and advises that he has heard that there is a good supply of men to be impressed in the Isle of Man, in Mounts Bay and in the Scilly Isles. Adds as a Postscript that the people of Falmouth, the Members for Penryn and the Lord Lieutenant of the County have applied to the Admiralty Board to remove him and Lieutenant Carter from their posts.
Folios 116-117: enclosure with folios 114-115. Letter dated 11 June 1812 by Robert Carter, Lieutenant, Impress Service, HMS Experiment, Falmouth Rendezvous, to James Slade, HMS Experiment. Explains that he finds himself in a particularly difficult situation, having been assaulted by a Constable on the order of the Mayor and on a number of occasions by mobs in the town trying to prevent him carrying out his duties and executing his Orders from the Admiralty. Requests that he is immediately removed from his post and asks for another appointment.
