Folios 4-5: James Keith Shepard, Regulating Officer, Gravesend. States the case of Thomas Spence, aged about 19, and Thomas Nutting, aged about 19, impressed on 23 May 1812 by Lieutenant Petley out of the Hanover where they were found stowed away despite the fact they are claiming to be apprentices. Claims he had reasonable grounds to detain them at the time as no Protections or Indentures were produced.
Folios 6-7: enclosure with folios 4-5. Letter dated 27 May 1812 by James Adamson, 35 Leadenhall Street, London to John Wilson Croker at the Admiralty. Encloses the indentures [not present] of Thomas Spence and Thomas Nutting and requests their release.
