Folios 188-189: John William Spranger, HMS Barham, Chatham. He is concerned about the way the gangway is attached to his ship. He had previously asked permission to modify it and had been refused. He asks again, on the grounds that in his view it is actually damaging the ship and asks permission for a builder and any of the senior captians presently at Chatham to come and inspect the problem when he will be able to demonstrate to them that if the problem is not rectified the gunwails will rot away inside a year and the ingress of rainwater is causing the ironwork to rust.
