Folios 161-162: James Keith Shephard, Gravesend. He refers to a letter received from the Admiralty which enclosed a protection for Samuel Cornish at that time on board HMS Ceres. He reports he was impressed from the East Indiaman the Winchester on which he was a crewman. He had been impressed because Captain Shephard has been told he had induced two apprentices to desert their master.
Folios 163-164: enclosure with folios 161-162. A petition dated 30 March 1812 by Elizabeth Cornish of Rotherhithe. She reports that her son Samuel Cornish was a member of the River Fencibles commanded by Commodore Lucas and Captain Gunner. Also a widow he is her sole means of support and has never been to sea and so she asks for his release.
