Folios 140-141: James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth. Asked by Admiralty letter of 8 October to advise on the impressment of William Veal, an apprentice. He had been taken on 3 October by Lt Carter, out of the Two Brothers, of Brixham. His having been to sea and worked in oats on the water before his apprenticeship was admitted by both the master and Veal himself.
Folios 142-143: enclosure with folios 140-141 Letter dated 6 October 1811 from William Collier of Brixham, applied to by a Mr Tyner, merchant, to communicate with the Admiralty and lay before them the boy's indentures so that he may be discharged. However, Veal had admitted to Carter that he had been to sea with his father in fishing boats, therefore Admiralty note on rear says he has 'used the sea' and may not be discharged.
