Description

Folios 243-244: George Scott, HMS Horatio, Dover Roads. Arrived Dover Roads with four ships of the East India Company: the Earl Howe, the Charles Grant, the Sir William Pultney and the Lady Luckington. Encloses a letter from the Governor of St Helena, an Intelligence Report on the enemy at Ile de France and a report on the state and condition of HMS Horatio.

Folios 245-246: enclosure with folios 243-244. Letter dated 9 July 1810 by Alexander Beatson, Governor of St Helena. Copy of the original Intelligence Report received from Mr Pringle of the East India Company at the Cape of Good Hope on state of the French Naval force on night of 5 May 1810 at the Mauritius Station.

Folios 247: enclosure with folios 243-244. George Scott and [H?] Gallery, Carpenter, September 1810. List of defects of HMS Horatio.

Folios 248-249: enclosure with folios 243-244. Letter dated 9 July 1810 by Alexander Beatson, Governor of St Helena, to George Scott. Encloses copy of letter from Vice Admiral Bertie and an Intelligence Report on the state of the French Naval force received from Mr Pringle, Agent of the East India Company. Also requests, as guided by the orders of the East India Secret Committee, that Scott takes the Earl Howe, the Charles Grant, the Sir William Pultney and the Lady Luckington, four ships of the East India Company in convoy back to England.

Folios 250 -251: enclosure with folios 243-244. Letter dated 17 May 1810 by Albemarle Bertie, Vice Admiral, HMS Olympia, Simon's Bay, to the Governor of St Helena. Intelligence on French ships gathered on 28 March 1810 at the Ile of France and requests that it is passed on to all ships of war sailing to India and who are not stopping at Simon's Bay. Last advice received from England was from HMS Illustrious en route to India.
