Description

Folios 250-251: note by unknown author, unknown date. Captain Duer and the other appointment similar to it. Think Captain Christian are both to be established in the way most consistent with official forms. Mr Kite will propose what is to be done. Also in the case of the ??, Cochrane and Thomas Sharp, Mr Kite to suggest a means of accomplishing, at least to state the case.

Folio 252: enclosure with folios 250-251. Letter dated 2 January 1806 from Francis Sharp, Custom House, Leith, to John Thompson, The Admiralty. Reports that he recently received a letter from his son Thomas, informing him that Admiral Cochrane has appointed him Master Commander of HMS Alligator. Requests that Mr Thompson uses his influence with Lord Barnham to confirm Admiral Cochrane's order. Encloses a letter sent by Lord Melville to the late Lord Advocate concerning Thomas.

Folio 253: enclosure with folios 250-251. Letter dated 23 July 1804 from unknown author to the Lord Advocate. Acknowledges receipt of the letter and enclosures regarding Lieutenant Sharp. It is unlucky for him that Mr Steel, the Lieutenant of HMS Northumberland has also been very strongly recommended, but he hopes in time to be able to serve them both.
