Description

Folios 211-212: Thomas Seccombe, HMS Glatton, The Downs. Reports that Mr Pickett, Gunner of HMS Glatton, has suffered severe ill health following a shipwreck, as can be seen in the enclosed letter from Captain Hardyman to Sir Evan Nepean. He is unable to carry out his duty in an active ship. since being under Captain Seccombe's command he has been attentive and assiduous, with generally good conduct, and deserves everything Captain Seccombe can say on his behalf. Requests his appointment to another ship, or to Plymouth Station, where his family live.

Folios 213-214: enclosure with folios 211-212. Copy of letter dated 23 January 1804 from Captain L Hardyman, HMS Unicorn, Little Nore, to The Admiralty. The Gunner of HMS Unicorn requests an exchange as he is unable to carry out the duties of an active ship, having been shipwrecked off the coast of Holland in deep winter when on board HMS Proserpine. That experience has affected him deeply and renders him incapable of carrying out his duties at times. Although he regrets losing a sober, careful and worthy Officer, Captain Hardyman brings the matter to attention.
