Folios 250-251: William Selby, HMS Cerberus, Spithead.
Reports his arrival having cruised off Madeira looking for the enemy fleet as ordered by Admiral Sir James Saumarez. Copy enclosed. While at Madeira he was informed that they did not know the destination of the combined fleets and that Admiral Cochrane called at the island but did not anchor. He states that HMS Cerberus is stored and victualled and is ready for any active service.
Folios 252-253: enclosure with folios 250-251. Admiral Sir James Saumarez on board HMS Cerberus orders William Selby to proceed to Madeira and then to the south east. If he should encounter any of the enemy's line of battle ships he should sail immediately to a port in England and describe what he has seen.
