Description

Folios 35-40. Letter from 1st Earl Harcourt [Lord Lieutenant of Ireland] to the Right Honourable Lord Viscount Weymouth transmitting a list of successions proposed in the army in Ireland. Dated at Dublin Castle. Enclosed: Folios 37-40: 'List of Successions in the Army in Ireland humbly recommended to His Majesty'; refers to (i) 14th Dragoons: disposal by Captain Lieutenant Wyndham Goddard of his commission at the regulated price to Captain John Gordon of the 54th Foot (who is noted to be ill with consumption but unwilling to retire); (ii) 54th Foot: Captain John Gordon to be replaced by eldest Lieutenant Eyre Power Trench of the 14th Dragoons; (iii) 14th Dragoons: Lieutenant Eyre Power Trench to be replaced by Cornet Samuel Faulkiner; (iv) 15th Foot: retirement at the Regulated Price of Captain Lewis Ourry, with his commission to be purchased by Lieutenant George Montague, and the latter's commission to be purchased by Ensign George Clewlow; Captain Normand Lamont to be promoted to a Majority and replaced by Captain Charles Churchill of the 19th Foot; (v) 19th Foot: Captain Churchill to be replaced by Lieutenant William Farquhar of the 56th; (vi) 33rd Foot: Captain Jeremiah Tinker to retire at the regulated price and be replaced by Lieutenant Thomas Greening; (vii) 53rd Foot: Captain James Frognorton to dispose of his commission at the regulated price to Lieutenant John Baird, who is in turn to be replaced by Ensign John Hamilton Browne. Dated at Dublin Castle.
