Folios 345-346: John Sykes, HMS Hecla, Dungeness. Reply to letter dated 27 June 1804 and the enclosed complaint of Mr Stephen Tadd, Carpenter of HMS Hecla. [Explanation as to why Mr Stephen Tadd was not allowed to join HMS Virginie following a drunken incident on the Beach at Deal a month after the issuing of his voucher of his good conduct]. He has since made a humble apology before the Officers and ship's company. Mr Stephen Tadd could not be allowed to join HMS Virginie [this] was explained to him. The reason which he observes to their Lordships now being appointed to suspend him and consequently no survey could be had or any charge taken of his stores. He awaits their Lordships judgement.
