Folios 275-276: John William Spranger, HMS Amethyst, Chatham. Understanding that an application has been made to their Lordships in favour of Mr Henry Spark Jones, late of the Doris, to come into the Amethyst, he confirms he would be glad to have him. He would not wish to part with his 1st or 2nd lieutenants but the junior lieutenant, Mr Mulcaster, only joined a few days earlier and is thought to have expectations of promotion - if his friends would like to see him in another ship or on another station Spranger would be happy to have Mr Jones in his place.
