Folios 268-269: William Stuart, HMS Crescent, Downs. Reply to letter dated 30 April 1804 relative to the four Writs he has been served with in the names of:- Richard Williams, James Patterson, William Hardy & Thomas Hall. In obedience to orders from Admiral Lord George Keith Elphinstone to cruise off Flamborough Head for the purpose of completing HMS Crescents Complement. He impressed Richard Williams, James Patterson, William Hardy they having shewn protections only for the voyage, which he considered as they were so new their destined Port, as ended. The other man Thomas Hall was never on board HMS Crescent. He received an order dated 29 January 1804 from his Lord Keith on 20 February 1804 to Discharge all the above men which was done when he arrived on 10 April 1804.
