Folio 251: Sir Richard John Strachan Bart., HMS Donegal, off Cape St Maria. As it may be sometime before his letters reach Lord Nelson. He sends [not present] a copy of his letter to his Lordship detailing the particulars of the destruction of the Spanish Frigate Amphitrite. He was proceeding with her to Cadiz to know from Sir John Orde whether she should be liberated, when this morning he fell in with HMS Defence, whose Captain [George Johnstone Hope] delivered him a Copy of a General Order from Lord Horatio Nelson to the Captains of the Ships under his Command and directed to him dated 15 November 1804, sent by HMS Nigre which ship has not joined. a Copy he sends [not present] wherein he was directed to commence hostilities. He has in consequence detained a Spanish Merchant Ship from Rio de la Plate and am proceeding with her and the Frigate to Gibraltar.
