Folio 224: John Stiles, HMS Alcmene, Portsmouth Harbour. Informs that ten days since he applied to you through Admiral George Montagu requesting that Lieutenant William Andrews might be confirmed as Second Lieutenant of HMS Alcmene, their Lordships replied that they had already appointed a Lieutenant to this ship and did not think proper to attach his Commission. But as no Officer has yet made his appearance and the Ship will go out of Harbour tomorrow. He presumes to solicit the favour that a Lieutenant may be appointed if possible Junior to Lieutenant William Andrews.
