Description

Folios 39-40: Thomas Sotheby, Sea Fencibles, Bristol. In the case of Joseph Tipple who could not be discharged on account of Lieutenant Jones having reported that he has used the Sea previous to his Indentures. He ordered Lieutenant Henry Rice the Officer he appointed to reside at Pill to make enquiries and report to him which report he has enclosed. Likewise he encloses Tippet's Indenture [not present], A letter from Sir Evan Nepean to Sir J C Hippesley acquainting him they had ordered his discharge when formerly pressed. A certificate from Captain John Manley of his discharge. His Protection to him as being Enrolled in the Sea Fencibles which the Midshipman who Impressed him making use of improper expressions refused looking at, and a letter from the Lad from on board HMS La Résolue [HMS Resolue] - Receiving Ship Plymouth.

Folios 41-42: enclosures with folios 39-40. Letter dated 28 November 1804 by Lieutenant Henry Rice, Sea Fencibles, Pile near Bristol, to Thomas Sotheby, Sea Fencibles, Bristol. Report on Joseph Tipple.

Folios 43-44: enclosures with folios 39-40. Letter dated 11 November 1804 by Joseph Tipple, HMS La Resolue, Plymouth, to Thomas Sheppard, Pilot, Pile near Bristol. Letter about where he is.

Folio 45: enclosures with folios 39-40. Letter dated 18 August 1803 by Evan Nepean, Admiralty, to Sir J C Hippesley, Grosvenor Square. Having communicated to the Admiralty a Report of the 11 August 1803 from Admiral Sir William Cornwallis upon the case of Joseph Tippet an apprentice on board HMS Spartiate. He returns the Indenture and note they have ordered him to be discharged.

Folio 46: enclosures with folios 39-40. Discharge Certificate for Joseph Tippet from HMS Spartiate on 27 May 1803. Dated 15 September 1803. Signed Captain John Manley.

Folio 47: enclosures with folios 39-40. Thomas Sotheby, Seven Sea Fencibles. Certificate that Joseph Tipple of Pile belonging to the Sea Fencibles and is protected from being Impressed.
