Folios 313-314: James Slade, Droxford. He responds to the Admiralty enquiry as to why he has not taken up the command of HMS Ariadne. He says that when he was appointed to HMS Ariadne in June he was then appointed to HMS Railleur. When he was superceded from HMS Railleur he did not assume that he should return to HMS Ariadne. He quotes his 23 years on active service and says that he assumed that he would be entitled to a ship on active service.
