Description

Folios 292-293: John Simpson, HMS Tourterelle, at the entrance to the Clyde. John Williams and Germaine Backee, French nationals, have asked to serve in the Navy rather than be prisoners of war. He has discharged 3 men impressed by Sandford Fatham, Regulating Officer, Greenock, as he is satisfied that they are Apprentices.

Folio 294: enclosed with folios 292-293. David Horric, Lieutenant, the Prince of Wales. Details of John Williams, Seaman and Germaine Backee, Ordinary, who are French prisoners of war, but wish to join the Navy. Note from Sandford Fatham, Regulating Officer, Greenock.

Folios 295-296: enclosed with folios 292-293. Letters dated 24 and 26 July 1804 by Thomas Brisbene, JP., Hamilton House. says that evidence has been presented to him that Matthew Muir impressed aboard HMS Tourterelle is an Apprentice and should be discharged. Matthew Muir, Weaver, apprenticed to John Hamilton.

Folios 297-298: enclosed with folios 292-293. Petition dated 10 May 1804 by John Dickson, Deputy, High Court of the Admiralty. Petition for the discharge of John Campbell who was impressed while operating the ferry in the Clyde.
