Folios 235-236: John Simpson, HMS Tourterelle, Greenock. He reports that Lieutenant Robert Read is unfit for duty and will not recover without a period of rest.
Folios 237-238: enclosed with folios 235-236. Letter dated 22 January 1804 by James Browne, Surgeon, HMS Tourterelle. He has examined Lieutenant Read. He is suffering from the ague and all the medicines have had little effect. He says that he needs rest in a better climate.
Folios 239-240: enclosed with folios 235-236. Letter dated 21 January 1804 by Robert Read, Lieutenant, HMS Tourterelle. he says that his health has been bad since he left Malta. He is unable to do his duty and believes that his best chance of improving his health would be in his home surroundings.
