Description

Folio 162: John Seater, HMS Leyden, Swin. Encloses a copy of his letter to the Commander in Chief which he asks to be presented to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.

Folio 163: enclosure with folios 162. Letter dated 2 March 1804 from John Seater, HMS Leyden, Swin, to Lord Keith. An Officer from the High Sheriff for Essex came on board this afternoon with a subpeona for himself, Lieutenant Miles and Lieutenant Sandy to attend the Maidstone Assizes on 12 march [1804] to give evidence in the trial of James Moodie and George Book, which summons he encloses. Lieutenant Emerton, Robert Riddell, Surgeon and John Burney, Boatswain, with 4 others, had previosuly been bound over to appear and he has his orders to have them in readiness according to a letter from Rear Admiral Towley dated 19 [February 1804] but had no idea that any others would be called upon, as he was told by Mr Knight, Agent for Mr Bicknell, that he did not think his presence would be required. Asks for directions. To avoid delay he has sent a copy of this letter to Rear Admiral Rowley and one to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.

Folio 164: enclosure with folios 162. Copy of summons dated 13 from Gould, witness Sir Beaumont Hotham, Knight at Westmisnter, to John Seaton, William Miles and William Sandy. Orders them to appear, on painn of a fine of £100, at Maidstone to give evidence in the case of John Moodie and George Book, in a case of felony.
