Folio 134: Matthew Henry Scott, HMS Niobe, Plymouth Sound. Reports his arrival from Guernsey following an order from Sir James Saumarez, a copy of which he encloses. On Monday 17 [December] when anchoring in a heavy gale they drove foul of HMS Thisbe and did her some damage. On the night of 19 [December 1804] with the wind still blowing hard and being close to the rocks he judged it necessary to cut away the fore and main masts to save the lives of the crew and the ship. Encloses a copy of the log, the state and condition of the ship and her defects [not present].
Folios 135-136: enclosure with folio 134. Copy of log of HMS Niobe between 18 and 25 December 1804. Mentions HMS Thisbe and HMS Diomede.
Folio 137: enclosure with folio 134. Copy of order dated 21 December 1804 from James Saumarez, Rear Admiral of the White, Commander in Chief at Guernsey and Jersey, given on board HMS Diomede in Guernsey Road, to Matthew Henry Scott, Captain of HMS Niobe, countersigned by Samuel Champion. Directs him to be ready to put to sea and go as soon as possible to Portsmouth or Plymouth and report his arrival.
