Folios 250-251: William Sidney Smith, London. Reports that there are 48 gun carriages and slides to Mr Gower's improved design at his wharf in Rotherhithe, while the 24-pounder guns to fit them are at Woolwich. As they have been tried out on HMS Kent and HMS Narcissus, and reported favourably to the Admiralty by the Board of Ordnance and by Admiral Lord Duncan and Captain Hope, hopes they can be fitted to any ship he is to command.
