Description

Folios 238-239: William Sidney Smith, London. Encloses an account of expenses incurred by Commander Richard Gaire Janverin in carrying despatches from Rear Admiral John Blankett in the Red Sea from El Arish to Mocha and from Jeddah to Constantinople. Asks that he be paid.

Folios 240-245: enclosed with folios 238-239. Commander Richard Gaire Janverin. Bound volume detailing his expenses on a journey from El Arish in Syria to Mocha on the Red Sea with despatches from Captain William Sidney Smith to Rear Admiral John Blankett, from Jeddah to Constantinople with despatches for the Admiralty and the Earl of St Elgin, and from Constantinople to Rhodes with despatches for Admiral Lord Keith and General Sir Ralph Abercrombie between January and December 1800. Certified by Captain Smith to say Commander Janverin was carrying a copy of the Convention of Al Arish, in order to save the expense of an expedition from India to Egypt.

Folio 247A: enclosed with folios 240-245. Unsigned list of bills apparently drawn by Captain Sir William Sidney Smith and Francis Werry between September 1800 and April 1801.
