Description

Folios 139-140: John Simpson, HMS Tourterelle, Greenock. Encloses two proposals for the Admiralty and [not present] a weekly account. 2 December 1803. Letter signed by John Scott and Sons, Builders addressed to Commander Simpson. They enclose a subscription signed by 224 ships' Carpenters offering their services, which was submitted to William MacDowal, Lord Lieutenant of Glasgow, but which had not been answered. Ask that it be laid before the Admiralty, as they are willing to serve in the defence of the Clyde.

Folio 141: enclosed with folios 139-140. Copy of a letter signed by John Scott and Sons, Builders, to Commander John Simpson, HMS Tourterelle, Greenock, 2 December 1803. Offer the use of their flat, the Greenock, for the defence of the port and will fit her for two 18-pound Carronades, if the Board of Ordnance can furnish the guns.

Folios 142-143. enclosed with folios 139-140. Copy of a subscription signed by 224 ships' Carpenters living in Greenock, offering to serve on shore or on any floating batteries to help defend the Clyde.
