Folios 99-100: James Stevenson, Pall Mall Court no 2. Replying to a query concerning soldiers received on board the Egyptienne. They were all regularly discharged from the Army and entered on board at Alexandria as Landsmen as shown on the ship's books. To the knowledge of the Captain, no promise was made to them of one shilling either by himself or his Officers. Regarding their discharges from the Egyptienne to HMS Africaine, this was done in a hurry or may have been carried out by Lieutenant Lighterness, First Lieutenant of Egyptienne. The latter’s papers may have been amongst those that past into the Greyhound. The Captain does not remember having had these discharge papers.
