Folios 255-256: William Sidney Smith, 5 Montpelier Row, Blackheath. In answer to the letter forwarded from Bath, he can only report that he encountered William Armstrong as a prisoner aboard El Carmen [HMS Carmen] who was treated well by Captain William Selby. Believes he was sent away from the military operations [in Egypt] as he could not give a satisfactory account of himself. Captain Sidney Smith promised to mention his situation to the Admiralty, but found that Captain Selby had sent a letter from Admiral Lord Keith with the prisoner which should have explained everything.
Folio 256: Cover for folio 255.
