Folios 251-252: William Sidney Smith, 2 George Street, Hanover Square. Recommends Thomas Hunkin [Thomas Hunkins], former Gunner's Mate of HMS Tigre and currently in HMS Venerable, for a Gunner's warrant, as he has served in the Turkish fleet and been recommended by the Captain Pasha.
Folios 253-254: enclosure with folios 251-252. Petition from Thomas Hunkins, HMS Venerable, Portsmouth, to Captain Sir William Sidney Smith, Charles Street, Manchester Square, 14 December 1802. Asks Captain Smith to use his influence to gain him a Gunner's warrant. He passed the examination for Gunner in March 1798. Endorsed in another hand to say the request has been referred to the Admiralty with a letter of recommendation from Captain Smith.
