Folios 199-200: Alexander Skene, HMS La Determinée, Portsmouth. Reports that James Colby has told him that because of illness he will not be able to take up his appointment as Purser, asks for a replacement and encloses a letter and certificates from acting purser Major Victor Crosby.
Folios 201-202: enclosure with folios 199-200. Letter dated 2 September 1802 from Major Victor Crosby, acting Purser of HMS La Determinée, Portsmouth Harbour, to Captain Alexander Skene. As his business in London is now settled, encloses certificates of his conduct and asks to be confirmed as Purser.
Folio 203: enclosed with folios 201-202. Certificate signed by Commander James Hillyar, HMS Niger, Malta Harbour, 13 Feb 1802. Commends the conduct of Major Victor Crosby, who served as acting Purser from May 1801 to February 1802.
Folio 204: enclosed with folios 201-202. Certificate signed by Captain Philip Beaver, HMS Determinée, Portsmouth Harbour, 19 July 1802. Certifies the good conduct of Major Victor Crosby, who served as [acting] Purser from March to July 1802.
