Regnal year: 20 Eliz I Case report, taken from Star Chamber Reports, BL Harley MS 2143, ed K. J. Kesselring (List and Index Society, Special Series 57, 2018): [353] Cholmeley, plaintiff; Dutton, armiger, and Warren, high sheriff, for neglecting to remove a force, and the sheriff for neglecting to impanel an indifferent jury against the rioters indicted, the sheriff for the first offence £20 and for the second £50 and Dutton £40 and put out of commission. Michaelmas 22 Elizabeth fo. 125. [561] Hugh Cholmeley and Mary his wife, plaintiffs; Holford and many others for riots entering in the plaintiff’s house in his absence, putting his wife and family in fear and keeping possession thereof against them and for gathering the company together by colour of his office alleging that they had need of their aid for apprehending of rogues who was fined at £50 and committed to the Fleet and all the rest fined and imprisoned.
