The Office of the Small Business Commissioner (OSBC) is an independent public body established under the Enterprise Act 2016. Its purpose is to tackle late payments and unfair payment practices, whilst supporting small businesses to get paid quickly and on time, influencing large businesses to improve payment times to suppliers. Its aim is to improve the culture of payment practices across the UK.
The Fair Payment Code is a target standard involving payment to suppliers. The Code aims to support businesses to improve payment practices by awarding businesses one of three Award categories: Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Gold award is achieved when a business consistently pays its suppliers within 30 days. Also included is a set of fair payment principles that businesses are required to commit to when they sign up to be awarded under the Code. It is administered by the OSBC on behalf of the Department for Business and Trade.
