Folios 276-277: enclosure with folios 274-275. Letter dated 29 April 1800 from Smith Holmes to Joseph Short, Regulating Captain, Lynn. Reporting that he was sent for by the mayor to attend court to find William Palmer, master of the Nancy of Selby, who was insolent to him when he impressed John Bateman who charged him with assault and he was fined 1 shilling by the court plus 30 shillings for court fees. The next day the man apologised for his ill behaviour. He is appealing against the court charges as he feels it will set a preference.
