Folios 263-264: Joseph Short, Lynn. Enclosing a certificate of a sea fencible John Bateman who was impressed by Lieutenant Holmes. He is not sure that certificate is genuine. He will detain him waiting for further directions from the Admiralty about him and Bobbet as the major of Lynn seems to interfere with his doing his duty.
Folio 265: enclosure with folios 263-264. Certificate dated 27 February 1800 signed by Charles Carpenter for John Bateman belonging to the Sea Fencibles of Hull on the coast of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire valid to 27 April 1800.
Folios 266-267: enclosure with folios 263-264. Letter dated 26 April 1800 from Lieutenant [?] Holmes, Lynn Rendezvous to Joseph Short, Regulating Officer. Reporting the details of impressing John Bateman.
