Folios 261-262: John Steven, HMS Chichester, Gibraltar. Acknowledges letter 24 June with letter from George Corey, supernumerary Midshipman [no longer present]. Reports George Corey, Edward Grew and Charles Stewart were removed from HMS Chichester by special warrant from Sir John Carter, Magistrate, Portsmouth 2 May charged with felony, 30 April. Says Corey’s letter is false. He showed him and Mr Woodhouse, Boatswain a watch he’d taken from a Jew by using the name Mr Johnston who was waiting to be paid. Woodhouse told him to return the watch, being unable to pay for it. Says Samuel Osborne, Carpenter, HMS Chichester, since dead said he threw it out his cabin port. Lieutenant Jolliffe says Corey kicked the Jew, who was respectable, out the ship when he asked for his money.
