Folios 229-230: John Steven, HMS Chichester, Woolwich. Requesting his son, James Barker Steven is added to the candidates list for the Royal Academy at Portsmouth. Mr Bayley says there will be four vacancies before Whitsuntide. Encloses certificates.
Folio 231: enclosed in folios 229-230. Baptism certificate 16 December 1789, John Griffin, Minister, John Elgar and E. Easterman, Elders. James Barker Steven, born Portsea, Hampshire 30 November 1787.
Folio 232: enclosed in folios 229-230. Certificate, John Baillie, Teacher of languages, Woolwich, 5 January 1799. James Barker Steven, English grammar, arithmetic to the rule of three. Good morals, promises fair.
