Created in 1982, the Films, Television and Video Advisory Committee was established to advise the British Council on new initiatives in the use of films, television and video. In 2001 the Advisory Committee structure was reviewed and as a result, the subject-specific committees were replaced by a smaller number of sector advisory groups.
