Folios 234-235: William Selby, HMS La Mondovi, Plymouth. He was ordered by Lord Bridport, to sail to sail for Torbay. On the 15 August 1799, very severe gales meant the ship nearly foundered and was making four feet of water an hour. She could not carry any sail and was nearly blown ashore in France so he threw his guns overboard and got away when the storm abated.
