Description

Folios 467-468: William Sidney Smith, HMS Tigre, Spithead. Covering letter for the enclosed from Robert Gillet, Carpenter. He is requesting a change of vessel or employment which he recommends. If his request is complied with he recommends Mr James Bray, Carpenter of HMS Diamond to succeed him.

Folios 469-470: enclosure with folios 467-468. Letter dated 28 August 1798 by Robert Gillett, Carpenter, HMS Tigre, to William Sidney Smith. States having been upwards of twenty years a Carpenter in His Majesty's Service, he no longer fit for active service and request an appointment to either in a ship in building or an Ordinary should there be no vacancy he requests to be placed on the Cheque of this yard.
