Folios 327-328: Joseph Short, [Regulating Officer], Lynn [Kings Lynn]. Reply to letter dated 5 July 1798 saying you approve of his sending the Midshipman belonging to this Rendezvous to Sick Quarters, he immediately made out a sick ticket and sent to the agents of this place who refused taking him although Lieutenant William Dalton told him he had directions from their Lordships, which he said were not orders to him, and that he would not receive him without orders from the Sick and Hurt Board, not being willing again to trouble you, he immediately wrote to that board acquainting them of the circumstances and requesting the commission would give their Agent Orders to receive him (this was on the 6 July 1798) to which letter he has not received an answer neither has the Agent received any directions. In consequence the Midshipman has been obliged to employ a Surgeon by which he has incurred an expense he is ill able to bear.
