Folios 274-275: Joseph Short, [Regulating Officer], Lynn [Kings Lynn]. Covering letter for the weekly return [not present] by which you will see that the Tender sailed on the 5 April 1798 with twenty two men and one boy plus four men and one boy from Wells [Wells-next-the-Sea]. Having received a list of Eleven Deserters from HMS Lancaster, also four from HMS Braakel [HMS Brakel], both in Yarmouth Roads. He made every enquiry himself and sent a Midshipman and three Men to Wisbech in hope if they passed that way to intercept them with the assistance of the Civil Power. He was informed that there were four sailors answering the description of some of the deserters in Ely yesterday and they were on their way to Liverpool and were to sleep at Peterboro [Peterborough] this night. He in therefore going to Peterboro [Peterborough] when taking up the Midshipman & those men in Wisbech and hope to get there before them. Request to be allowed tom charge his travelling expenses with those of the Midshipman and men in his account. Lieutenant Dalton being on leave of absence.
