Folios 248-249: Joseph Short, [Regulating Officer] Lynn [Kings Lynn]. Reply to your letter dated 19 January 1798, informing him that Lieutenant Chambers is to obey orders from him. I sent him a letter and received the enclosed reply. Request he [Lieutenant Thomas Chambers] be given the order alluded too.
Folios 250-251: enclosure with folios 248-249. Letter dated 23 January 1798 by Lieutenant Thomas Chambers, Regulating Office, Wells [Wells-next-the-Sea]. States he received your order of the 20 January 1798, yesterday, wherein you say you have been informed that they have given him order to obey an orders he receives from you. He assures that he has never received any such order. Captain Isaac Wolley called him on the 25 December 1796 and shewed [showed] him an order from the Admiralty to send what men he procured here to Lynn by land, with no other directions whatever.
