Folios 221-222: George James Shirley, Beaufort Building. Reply to letter dated 11 July 1798 desiring to be informed from what authority he gave orders to the Purser of HMS Mars to issue Brandy for the preservation of the Corps of the late Captain Alexander Hood and of the Wine for the use of the Wounded. His reply is that Lord Bridport [Lord Alexander Arthur Hood (1st Viscount Bridport)] ordered him to cause the body of the deceased Captain Alexander Hood to be preserved & sent to his family as per the dying request of the deceased. The order he gave for the Wine was in consequence of the Surgeon request.
