Folios 191-192: William Shield, HMS Unite, Nore. Reports that as per his orders of Admiral Lord Viscount [Adam] Duncan, he sailed from the Nore with the Trade for the Baltic on the 7 October 1798 consisting of 14 sail and arrived with them on the 14 October 1798 at Elsinore, where he found HMS Nautilus and HMS Liberty who had arrived a few hours before with a convoy from Hull. Captain Gunter's orders being very similar to his, and finding a large Fleet bound to England, he thought it, for the good of the service to take him under orders. On the 18 October 1798 her sailed with 111 Sail of vessels. On the 20 October 1798 at the Naze [Lindesnes] of Norway bearing NW 9 Leagues the wind shifted and he thought it better to get the convoy into port, they went into several ports between the Naze and Flekkefjord on the20 October 1798 and 21 October 1798, with him anchoring in Mandahl [Mundal] Klove on the 21 October 1798, he found HMS Hound. On his arrival he wrote the British Consul at Christiansand. [Total of two plus sides with descriptions of all the enclosures and further details of his voyage to England].
Folio 193: enclosure with folios 191-192. Orders dated 2 November 1798 by William Shield, HMS Unite, Mandahl [Mundal] Klove, [Fjærlandsfjorden], Norway to Henry Gunter, HMS Nautilus. DOrders to keep the enemy ships in those Ports until the Convoy under his Command has cleared that part of the Coast. You are then to proceed to Flekkesoe.
Folio 194: enclosure with folios 191-192. Orders dated 2 November 1798 by William Shield, HMS Unite, Mandahl Klove, Norway, to James Wood, HMS Hound. Orders that when the Signal No 44 is made you are required and directed to take such part of the Convoy under your Protection as may be bound to any of the Ports to the North of Whitby and use your best endeavour to see them in safety off their several Ports and then proceed to Leith Roads with such ships as may be bound to Scotland and having seen them safely to that Port, you will proceed to the Nore taking under your Convoy any ships which may be assembled ready to sail to the Thames. Reporting to Admiral Lord Viscount Dunkin.

Reports that today by Survey has been held on 2nd Lieutenant Mr William Wickham of HMS Hound and that the result state that he is totally incapable of Service and as the Duty will be extremely heavy . Request the appointment of an Acting Officer in his room.

Folio 201: enclosure with folios 191-192. Letter dated 1 November 1798 by William Shield, HMS Unite, Mandahl Klove, Norway. To Henry Gunter, HMS Nautilus. Dated 1 November 1798. In consequence of a letter he received from Captain James Wood of HMS Hound dated 30 October 1798 which stated that his ship had been rendered unfit to keep at sea and having ordered a survey on the Hull, Rigging and Sails which are reported to be in a very bad state making her return to England necessary. He thinks in necessary for a Ship of War to continue at that station. [Orders to take the place of HMS Hound].

Folio 203: enclosure with folios 191-192. Letter dated 25 October 1798 by James Wood, HMS Hound, Klove Mandahl to William Shield, HMS Unite, Mandahl Klove, Norway. Covering letter for the enclosed letter from Mr William Wickham and having consulted the Surgeon of HMS Hound on the propriety of the request it is his opinion that it is absolutely necessary for the preservation of Lieutenant Wickham's life that he should go to England.
Folio 204: enclosure with folios 191-192. Orders dated 24 October 1798 by William Shield, HMS Unite, Mandahl Klove, Norway to James Wood, HMS Hound. Orders to put to sea as soon as the weather permits and proceed off those Ports in which the enemy's armed vessels now are to try to prevent them getting out.
