Folios 351-352: Thomas Surridge, HMS Iris, Gravesend Reach. He responds to the request from the Admiralty for the names of three of the most active participants of the recent mutiny. He says that he has consulted his Officers and they all agree that the crew would have sailed away from the Nore had not they feared being fired upon by the other ships. He says that on June 8 the topsail masts were hoisted ready to make sail when they became aware that HMS Inflexible had manned the guns preparatory to opening fire. He says he believes the men were forced to take command of the ship and prior to that neither he, or his Officers had experienced any rudeness or aggression. He says that he cannot names three culprits as requested. John Coil was the principal of the ship's committee and has deserted, but he believes this is due to his fear of punishment.
