Folios 251-252: Joseph Short, Lynn.
Having received intelligence of a privateer capturing two vessels off Boston the information was supported by a vessel which saw her take a brig off the Lincolnshire coast and another off Saltfleet. He informed Lieutenant Birchall commanding HMS Speedwell of this and recommended pursuing the privateer. Birchall says that he will return in time to take a convoy but Short asks whether he is authorised to give orders to a junior officer.
