Acknowledges receipt of a letter dated 12 June 1797 with a petition enclosed [not present]. Reports that William Askew was impressed as he had been at sea. The protection granted to Messrs Joseph and Thomas Brindley covered forty nine men 'providing they were never used at sea'. Askew worked half his time at sea and half in the yard.
