Folios 197-198: Richard John Strachan, HMS Melampus, Grouville. On 24 [May 1796] returning from Marcou he left HMS Minerva and HMS Childers in the Ancre de Vanville, giving Captain Peyton directions to co-operate with Captain D'Auvergne and proceeded to Guernsey where he was joined by HMS Diamond and in company with her, HMS Syren and HMS Camilla proceeded off the isle of Bass. Reports proceedings. HMS Syren sprung her mast and he directed Captain Moore to go to the nearest port to repair the damage. On 27 [May 1796] he detached HMS Camilla to Jersey to assist HMS Minerva assist Captain D'Auvergne. On 1 [June 1706] he arrived off Guernsey and left HMS Diamond to water and proceeded to Marcou. Off Cherbourg he met HMS Minerva. She had not been able to get to Jersey. He arrived at Grouville on 3 [June 1796]. HMS Minerva arrived before him and he found HMS Camilla and HMS Childers ready to sail with the vessels under the orders of Captain D'Auvergne towards the coast of France. He proposes to accompany them. If the wind permits they will sail towards St Malo tomorrow.
