Receipt of directions dated 12 April [1796] to bring money which Messrs Walekins might put on board to the Nore after the ship had got under sail from Yarmouth. he wrote to the Consul and Messrs Walekins who did not reply but the Consul told him they were uncertain whether they could send the money by HMS Melampus. HMS Vestal arrived on 19 [April 1796] with orders from Admiral Duncan to take the trade to the Nore. The wind was favourable on 21 [April 1796[] and having no instructions how to cat if he did not have the money from Messrs Walekins he sailed from Cuxhaven the next morning. On 23 [April 1796] with HMS L'Espiegle. Her Commander, Captain Roberts, was ordered by Admiral Duncan to look in at Texel. Next morning they were off Texel and his observations are in the accompanying letter [folios 165-166].
