Folios 161-162: Richard John Strachan, HMS Melampus, Yarmouth. The wind has prevented the Packet from sailing as her Master thinks the probability of a long passage might endanger the health of the Princess. He has been told that the Prince of Orange Packet, Master Anthony Den, was chased on 9 [April 1796] on its passage from the Elbe by a frigate which fell in with him near the Texel. It left off the chase. he thought it was a Dutch ship. He would have gone to the Texel but thought his absence might prevent the Packet with the Princess form sailing. Captain Field of HMS Curlew who is now there says he does not know of any of Admiral Duncan's cruisers being off the Texel. Asks for directions. If the wind becomes favourable before he receives them he will proceed with the Princess to Cuxhaven.
