Folios 149-150: Richard John Strachan, HMS Melampus, Carterett [Carteret]. The ship reported off Choioze by Captain D'Auvergne turns out to be HMS Diamond, Sir Sydney Smith. Reports intelligence provided by Captain Foote of HMS Niger after examining a brig off Cherbourg. She was part of the Republic cartel. He [Foote] took out some men taken prisoner and learnt details of the cartel. His report mentions La Romaine, Brest, Havre, and Cherbourg and intelligence about French soldiers who had joined the Royalists or fallen into their hands. In addition to this intelligence, describes their observations of the coast. Mentions Isle Pillu, Granville and Cherbourg [amongst other indecipherable places]. He proposes to cruise there until the tender returns from Jersey. HMS Force and HMS Conquest came in there from Spithead on their way to Jersey to receive orders from Sir Sydney Smith.
