Description

Prisoner name: Thomas Nicholson.

Court and Date of Trial: Exeter [Devon] City Sessions June 1848.

Crime: Possession of base coin.

Initial sentence: Three years' imprisonment.

Outcome: Enquire as to his health. Conditional pardon to two years' imprisonment 10 May 1850.

Petitions and letters: Petition by prisoner pleading his good conduct in prison and asking for his release on the grounds of ill health; surgeon's report by Charles [Wright] advising that the prisoner's health has declined and will be permanently damaged if not released; letter forwarding surgeon's report from Henry D Bartan, clerk.
